The free Dutch Flower Route is the cycle route that lets you enjoy spring flowers or summer flowers in the Bollenstreek. You will cycle past the most beautiful flower fields, the beach, the dunes and the villages of Noordwijkerhout and Lisse. On the way, you will pass by the nicest (flower) attractions, monuments and nature reserves such as Keukenhof flower park and various tulip farms and tulip show gardens.

Cycle the Dutch Flower Route
The Flower Route is about 35 kilometres long and can be cycled in about 2 to 3 hours. During the cycle route, you will discover the versatility and hospitality of the Bollenstreek. You will cycle along the beach, the unique dune area, beautiful monuments and of course, the most beautiful flowers of the season. Because of the relatively short distance, the route can easily be combined with a visit to one or more of the highlights along the route.
Hop on Hop off sightseeing along the Flower Route
The Flower Route takes you past many fields of tulips, daffodils and hyacinths. These flower fields provide the most colourful landscape in the world every spring. Besides the flower fields, there are also many attractions, museums and monuments you can visit. In spring, the Keukenhof flower park is highly recommended, but there are also many tulip show gardens, museums and tulip farms to visit. Please note! For some locations you need to book in advance. When is the Flower Route at its most beautiful?
The season of spring flowers starts from Thursday 20 March to Sunday 11 May 2025. During this period, various spring flowers bloom. Besides the famous Dutch tulips, you can also enjoy the daffodils and hyacinths. During this period, the Keukenhof flower park is also open and is also located along the cycle route. In summer, the Dahlia show gardens bloom from 10 August to 13 October 2024.

Directions to the Flower Route?
The Flower Route uses the extensive network of cycle junctions, which makes this route easy to cycle by means of signs with green numbers. You follow the cycle junctions that can be found on the free version of the Flower Route. You can then print out the route. A paper version of the cycle route is available from the tourist information offices in the Bollenstreek (bulb region) and from the hotels, B&Bs and holiday parks along the route.

The Flower Route can be started at any point along the route. There are a number of convenient starting locations. We have listed a number of starting points below. The starting points are easy to reach by car and have ample parking space. You can also easily cycle the Bloemenroute from various hotels and holiday parks.

You can also cycle the flower route from several popular hotels and holiday resorts.
- From Noordwijk, follow junction 32 and then start the flower route at junction 43.
- From Zandvoort: follow junction 79 and then start the flower route at junction 31.
- From Sassenheim: follow junctions 51 and 50 and then start the cycle at junction 58.
Bike hire along the Flower Route
The Flower Route is easy to cycle with your own bike. Don’t have a bike or don’t feel like taking your bike to the Bollenstreek? Then you can simply hire a bike from one of the locations along the route.
Restaurants along the Cycle Route
With this cycle route, you will not only enjoy the beautiful nature in the Bollenstreek, you will also cycle through the cosy flower villages Noordwijkerhout and Lisse. In these flower villages, you will find village squares with many restaurants and terraces where you can enjoy a snack and a drink. The cycle route is 35 kilometres long and takes about two hours to complete. With visits to the highlights, the Flower Route takes two to three hours on average.
No, this route has to be done individually. There are also bicycle tours available where a local guide takes you to the most beautiful tulip fields in bloom and to a tulip farm. For this, see Bike tour with local guide.
Yes, the route can also be driven with one of the sightseeing tours. For example, the electric scooter, Solex and also the TukTuk. However, the Solex is not allowed to drive through the dunes and the TukTuk has to take an alternative route.
Yes, a visit to Keukenhof takes on average between 2 and 4 hours and can be combined very well with the flower route. The cycle route is 35 kilometres long and takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete. You can decide for yourself whether and how long you will stop at a hop-off location. Please note! To visit Keukenhof you have to reserve your ticket in advance. Look at Keukenhof tickets to book your visit and to reserve a parking ticket.
