In the summer, the Bollenstreek is best known for its beautiful beaches, dunes and the extensive Dutch lake district. From 1 August to 11 October 2026 the Dahlia Festival takes place and you can admire many summer flowers in the region. Dahlia show gardens in particular are becoming increasingly popular: in 2026 there are no fewer than five show gardens to visit. A must for young and old.
Dahlia show gardens
Due to the long flowering time of the summer flowers, there is plenty of time to admire the dahlias. From 1 August to 11 October 2026 the dahlia show gardens are in bloom and you can enjoy the wealth of colours of the versatile dahlia flower.
Below you will find the five dahlia show gardens of the Dahlia Festival 2026. All show gardens are located in the Bollenstreek and combine perfectly with a visit to the beach, the dunes or the Dutch lake district. They are all connected by the Bollenstreek flower cycle route.
Dahlia gardens at Keukenhof Castle
Keukenhof’s castle gardens are even more beautiful during the dahlia season because of the various dahlia show gardens that have been laid out there. In 2026 the dahlia gardens are extra large, so you can enjoy the summer flowers even more with Keukenhof Castle in the background. A walk on the estate is therefore extra special from 1 August to 1 October 2026.

Dahlia Show garden at tulipfarm De Tulperij
Enjoy the dahlia flowers at flower bulb nursery De Tulperij in Voorhout. This authentic tulip farm is the perfect place to learn more about the dahlia. The large CNB dahlia show garden creates a wonderfully colourful setting and on the terrace you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. Besides the show garden there is a dahlia pick-your-own garden, a treasure hunt for children and you can buy the new harvest of tulip bulbs. You can also join a guided dahlia excursion in Dutch or English.

FBT Dahlia Show Garden
The FBT dahlia show garden in Hillegom was originally aimed at the business market. Yet more and more consumers are finding this beautiful show garden. This is partly because the show garden is located along the Bollenstreek flower cycle route.

I Love Dahlia Show Garden
New on the route: the dahlia show garden of I Love Dahlia, one of the largest dahlia growers in the Bollenstreek. Here you walk between hundreds of dahlia varieties and take the most beautiful photos against a colourful backdrop. Would you like to go a step further? Join a dahlia workshop in which you cut your own favourite flowers and make a bouquet to take home.

CS Weijers Dahlia Show Garden
Also new during the Dahlia Festival 2026 is the dahlia show garden of C.S. Weijers & Zonen in Hillegom. This dahlia grower shows a wide assortment in the show garden, from classic varieties to brand-new introductions. A great extra stop when you explore the Bollenstreek by bike or e-scooter.

We have developed a nice cycling route especially for the summer flowers. The flower route is a varied route where the beach and dunes are interspersed with dahlia show gardens and beautiful monuments. The cycling routes are 35 kilometers long.

Guided tours of the summer flowers
Do you want to know everything about the summer flowers and discover the most beautiful places in the Bollenstreek? Then book a tour of the summer flowers. You can choose from a bike ride with a local guide (€ 42.50 per person from age 12, including bike rental, starting at De Tulperij), a tour with an electric Renault Twizy (€ 85 for a 3-hour GPS audio tour for 2 people) or an electric scooter, which is also allowed in the dune area.

Buy tulip bulbs
The new crop of tulip bulbs (and other flower bulbs) will also be available from August. You can therefore buy fresh tulip bulbs and other flower bulbs from various locations in the Bulb Region. You can also order fresh tulip bulbs online.

Many different types of flowers bloom in the Bulb Region. In the summer it is especially the versatile dahlia flower that gets a lot of attention. The dahlia comes in many variations and colors and blooms for a longer period.
When do the summer flowers bloom in the Bollenstreek?
The summer flowers bloom in the Bollenstreek from August to October. The Dahlia Festival 2026 runs from 1 August to 11 October 2026. As soon as the dahlia gives flowers, flowers continue to appear until the end of October. This allows you to enjoy the beautiful and surprising flower for a long time. The production fields are topped every week, however, so the flowers are less visible there. If you want to enjoy the dahlia, visit one of the dahlia show gardens.
Are dahlia show gardens freely accessible?
Most dahlia show gardens are free to visit. Only I Love Dahlia charges a small contribution. Below is an overview of the five show gardens during the Dahlia Festival 2026.

What are the opening hours of the dahlia show gardens?
The dahlia show gardens have different opening hours. Keukenhof Castle is open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (1 August to 1 October 2026), De Tulperij daily from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM (1 August to 11 October 2026) and I Love Dahlia on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The FBT and CS Weijers show gardens can be visited during the day.
Are there picking gardens with summer flowers in the Bollenstreek?
Yes, De Tulperij in Voorhout has a pick-your-own garden with dahlias, so you can pick your own dahlia bouquet. At I Love Dahlia you cut your own favourite flowers from the show garden during the dahlia workshop.
Is there a cycling route along the summer flowers?
Yes, a nice cycling route has been developed in collaboration with bollenstreek.nl that takes you along the beach, dunes and summer flowers. The cycling route is free to cycle and can be downloaded here.
